Educational Talent Search Receives Over $2 Million

Educational Talent Search (ETS), located on the Southeastern Community College campus, received funding for the next 5 years.

The funding will last September 1, 2021 – August 21, 2026, in the amount of $2,263,385.

“This is great news for our community,” said Doris Joseph, ETS Director. “It’s important to the students in Columbus County to have this type of resource available to them.”

Educational Talent Search is federally funded by the United States Department of Education to serve 6th – 12th-grade students in Columbus County. The purpose of the program is to encourage participants to graduate from high school and continue to complete postsecondary education. Free supportive services include career, academic, and financial literacy counseling, exposure to college campuses, cultural enrichment activities, assistance with:

  • college entrance exam preparation,
  • financial aid applications,
  • and college admissions applications.

ETS serves students in Central, Evergreen, Tabor City Middle School, Jr/Sr East, West, South Columbus, and Whiteville High School.
