Former SCC President will address 2019 graduates

Former Southeastern Community College President Dr. Stephen Scott will deliver the graduation speech at SCC’s commencement on Friday, May 10.

“It is an exciting opportunity to have Dr. Scott address our graduates,” said SCC President Dr. Anthony Clarke. “He has had a long and successful career in community college leadership where he has helped students and the community succeed, including SCC students and Columbus County.”

Scott retired last year after serving as Wake Technical Community College’s president since 2003. Under his leadership at Wake Tech, the college experienced growth in the number of facilities and in the student population to where it is now the largest community college in North Carolina with 10 campuses and centers.  Prior to joining Wake Tech, Scott was executive vice president and chief operating officer of the North Carolina Community College System from 1999 to 2002, president of Lenoir Community College in Kinston from 2002 to 2003 and president of SCC from 1988 to 1999. Prior to joining SCC, he worked 16 years at two South Carolina colleges.

“Some of the best memories of my career were made at Southeastern Community College and in Columbus County,” Scott says. “Returning as the commencement speaker is an honor.”

The SCC Commencement Exercises will be held Friday, May 10 at 9 a.m. on the front lawn of A Building.
