SkillsUSA chapter attends state conference

Southeastern Community College’s SkillsUSA chapter recently attended the SkillsUSA North Carolina State Leadership & Skills Conference and came home with several awards.

In the Computer Programming category, participants were Casey Blackwell, Ralph Boger, Jeremy Lunde and Cynthia Lunde, who earned fifth place. The event advisor was Ian Smeigh.

In the Crime Scene Processing category, Criminal Studies Instructor Aaron Cox was an event observer.

In the Fantasy Hair & Makeup category, participants were Madison Batten with Christy Hardee as her model, Cortney Cox with Tiffany Kielbon as her model and Patsy Pugh with Tammey Fowler as her model. Cox earned second place and Batten earned fourth place. The event advisor was Deanna Inman.

In the HVAC category, participants were Andy Griffin and Roy Kelly. The event advisor was Keith Fairfax.

In the Information Technology Services category, single participant Dexter Cartret earned third place. The event advisor was Eric Prout.

In the Medical Terminology category, Amanda Stanley earned third place and Zelda Avins earned fourth place. The event advisor was Sheila Harris.

In the Television (Video) Production category, Ian Edwards and Raven Williams earned third place. The event advisor was Amanda Albright-Hilburn.

In the Welding for Postsecondary category, participants were Quinten Bussard and Colton Dew, who earned fifth place. The event advisor was Paul Starnes.

In the Welding for Secondary category, participants were Austin Blackmon and David Friel. The event advisor was Jeff Hester.

The SCC SkillsUSA Chapter earned the 100 Plus Members Club Award and the Total Participation Chapter Award. The club advisor is Sheila Harris.
