Wyche Gallery Features artist, Barbi Bailey-Smith

The exhibition features work by Barbi Bailey-Smith, a current school teacher from Durham, NC. She has developed and taught a course for integrating the arts with other curricular areas for North Carolina Central University’s School of Education, is an Educational Consultant, as well a consultant for CRAYOLA, and a professional artist, specializing in Pet Portraiture.

Barbara has taught visual art in a variety of settings and to every age student from pre-school to college undergraduates. In addition to her current teaching positions, she has led professional development for the A+ Schools Program, and been an Assessor for the NBPTS for Early Adolescent and Young Adulthood Art. She also leads workshops about connecting the arts with other curricular areas throughout North Carolina. Barbara has received many honors and awards, including recognition as North Carolina’s Art Educator of the Year by both the NC Art Education Association (NCAEA) and the National Art Education Association. She has presented at regional, state and national conferences on arts education, curriculum integration, classroom management and leadership. Her work has been published in CRAYOLA’s Dream Makers Guides on integrated lesson plans in alignment with the National Standards for Arts Education. Barbara is also a practicing artist and her work art has been displayed in galleries across the state. She spends her time painting, reading, dog training and volunteering with her Therapy Dog, Casey.

The artists’ receptioin is Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 5-7 p.m.

The Wyche Gallery, located upstairs in A Building, features work by local and regional artists. It offers an educational opportunity to our students and community through exhibitions, visiting artist lectures, and artist workshops. New exhibits are on view every six weeks during the Spring and Fall semesters. The Student Art Show, held each April, features work created by students in the studio courses during the academic year. Funding for the gallery is provided by the SCC Foundation.
