Wyche Gallery will feature female artists from the region

Thursday, October 12th, 2017

The upcoming exhibit in the Wyche Gallery at Southeastern Community College is entitled Woman Image Word. In this exhibition, the artists are inviting you into their studio, into the ideas and stories that inspire their work. Woman Image Word will feature two and three-dimensional works by eleven contemporary female artists in North Carolina. Their work will be exhibited side by side with the words that inspired the piece.

The group is made up of female artists within the region. All of their work will include some element of text or a story that is the inspiration for the work. Some, like Catherine Billingsley, used a name for the actual structure of her weaving. Others have offered their own writings connected to the work. Heather Muise and Margie Labadie both have works inspired by poetry. There’s a variety of mediums: paintings, print making, digital, textiles, ceramics and mixed media.

An artists’ reception will be held on Thursday, October 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
